96 Disco misses only when warm
I have a 96 Disco with 131000 Miles on it it runs great when it is first started and will run good for the first 45 minutes or so. If I then shut it off for a short time to fill gas or something, it will have a intermittent miss upon resart. When it misses it will drop 200 to 300 rpm on the tack it will do this for some time and then clear up. Get a code that says missfire cyl 7. It has new plugs and wires, new fuel filter cleaned the mass airflow sensor, did the seafoam trick both gas tank and induction,. No changes. This thing misses worse the warmer the weather gets. when its cold and rainey it runs like a champ. I have checked alt output, also comp is good, checked the TPS it is good. I am down to the ignition coils or worse sticky valves? but it only misses under power it always idles fine so I am thinking valves are ok. Any suggestions this is very baffling. Tried to take it to one dealer and the said if it wont do it consistantly they would have trouble figuring it out too.

I used NGK V groove plugs and STI wires. But let me make it clear this problem had started before the plugs and wires, they have made it no better or no worse. Today I drove to workfollowed same routine as yesterday short stop at the M/C shop for some parts continued to work. 2 hour meetingand then 40 miles back home. It ran so good it almost makes you believe that next time it will not stummble all over itself, but that is the way this thing is going. I get a couple of good trips and then it gets bad for a while. seems worse in warm weather. What about a bad connection inthis "spider" unit I keep reading abouton some other threads?

Mike is Right......
The injectors did not fix the problem......
Now I am really stumped.
Could it be the crank trigger for the ignition system?
I have also replaced the plugs, wires, and coil packs, and none of it made any difference.
Seems to be sensitive to ambient temp. Hotter is worse. ( I live in AZ........)

Could this be the VSS?
It is a 5spd Disco, and the miss will happen mainly at low speeds?
Clutch switch is a little flakey to. Any link to retarding the ignition timming or anything?

Just had to bring back an old topic in case it may help others. I know its been a long time, but it has been a very busy year. In regards tothe miss on my 96 Disco it turned out to be nothing more than than the vehicle speed sensor. Replaced it andmy discohas not missed a beat since.
