Default 96 Disco Problem

96 Land Rover Discovery, Rpm's wouldn't climb above 1800 rpm's no codes, no check engine light. I knew it was the crank shaft sensor, pulled it out the needle got hit and was bent over 90 degrees, replaced the sensor and i'm going to replace the flywheel tomorrow when it arrives, now the Rover cranks over and won't start at all checked the plugs a little fuel on them but not to bad. Not the fuel cut off switch either. Put pressure gauges on the cylinders pressures fine. btw still no codes and no lights come on. Fuel pumps working and its getting good spark. Somebody Please Help?

so you are saying that the timing set bent your crankshaft sensor? You put in a new one and now it won't start. Will it start with the old one in? where did you get the new one?

I think you are way off on this problem, may be wrong but I don't think so.
Send me your number and I'll call you.

The pin on the crank shaft sensor was actually bent 90 degrees from the teeth the sensor reads off. The reason being the original rivets loosened up, making the plate to shift a little. So i redid the plate welding it, I got a new sensor from Rovers north but I also had a second sensor from another 97 Disco i own. The engine turns over and wants to start but doesn't. The shop computer and my home computer show no codes, however I have read the engine before. Did a pressure test on all the cylinders some fluctuation per cylinder but the lowest pressure was 150 highest was 180 and there wasn't any leaks for a head gasket failure. I read something interesting tonight about an ignition coil on the 94 disco that wouldn't start so I think I may start there tomorrow morning. I appreciate your help Mike.

alright so I got a new cam shaft sensor, , changed the knock sensors, swapped computers, and ignition coils,Swapped the spider, and the alarm system unit. It is clearly a timing issue because I advanced the firing order one notch and the engine started ran terribly but still ran. I am lost.

Alright so, I took the fly wheel out totally and noticed there was a little piece missing from the timing set ring What I had mistaken for a notch was really a missing tooth. Got a new ring, riveted and welded the new one on, turned over and fired up first crank. Another added benefit the idle was perfect so there was no relearning necessary. Either way all the work was good for the car anyway. Hope this solves some peoples problem. I would also like to thank Disco Mike he was a great asset and I really appreciated the call.
