So, my '98 Disco 1 needs a new fuel pump relay too. My mechanic is charging me about 400 and some change to do this repair. After reading this, I think I can do it myself. Is it a pretty easy fix? Just a simple "pop in, pop out" kind of deal? I'm not mechanically inclined AT ALL, but would love to pop this out by myself and save a couple hundred.

If it's the pump relay yes you can do this yourself. Can't believe your mechanic would charge you $400. Thats $300 in labor for a 5 minute fix. Terrible. I'd find a new mechanic.

Try sending smitty a private message or email and he'll be happy to reiterate how easy it is. Would like to know how his truck is running now too with the fuel pump issues he was having.

Changing a relay is easier than changing a light bulb, unplug the old relay, plug in the new one, done.

Seriously, change this yourself. It is at the top of your engine compartment on the passenger side and I did it in my good work clothes. Literally took less then a minute to change it and start the truck.

Truck is running great. Put the old fuel pump back in because when comparing the new Master brand and the OEM pump, there is a difference in where the tube connects to the pump. In short, the Master brand was letting pressure bleed off and now I aint having that problem. I will keep the new one till the old goes out and then figure out how to make it work.
