Default 99 Disco 2: MAF hose issue

I bought this D2 a few months ago. While I was cleaning my air filter housing, I looked at the hose and found this. The dreaded SPOT, for sure. It looks like they used a Robitussin medicine cup or similar to do this crap. I never noticed before because, when installed, this thing is pointing to the ground.

Apparently the thing in the red circle is what they eliminated and I am suspecting that I need to buy the complete hose. Can any of you confirm? What is it for?

I believe the hose is called MAF air flow meter tube duct hose, part number ESR4236.

Thanks.

I believe that's the carbon canister, I think it's for emissions and maybe to keep stuff from coming back through to the MAF? I have never understood carbon canisters.

Agreed. Does nothing. I have one that doesn't have it and another that does. No difference.

JMO since it is below the level of the MAF and the intake, it also prevents liquids which might get in to the system from going into the MAF.
Give Paul Grant a shout, he probably has a used one for you. A lot cheaper than new.

Thanks for the replies. Why would anyone delete it and butcher the hose like that? Is it possible that this is the cause of codes P0101, P0172 and P0175?

Could be...but Idk if I would trust the MAF being good now either.

I think I have one of those in a box...
