Default 99 disco engine swap

A friend gave me his 99 disco as he thought that I could use it for the parts to keep my 97 disco
running. His is without a single blemish inside or out. Mine on the other hand is lifted on 37"s and offroaded since new.

I swap out the blown motor for my 97 motor. Is it a direct bolt in?

I'm confused. You want swap the engine from your 97 into the 99? Or do I have it backwards? If you live an area with emission testing I believe you would have to swap in a 99 or newer engine to make it legal. The other way around would be no problem. Both years use the same 4.0 V8 and same transmission. Is the 99 a D1 or D2?

As long as they are both DI's it is a direct fit. If the 99 isa DII then it will still work but you will need a few electrical mods for the engine managment.

Yep my 97 runs good but the body and chassis are beat from rock crawling. The 99 has a blown motor from running without coolant. There is a hole in the block. My buddies wife floored it to try and make it home when it started smoking.

That makes sense, the engine starts to smoke and you drive it harder.
As long as the doner truck is a DI you can put yoiur engine into it with no problems as well as your mods.

Nope NO MORE MODS to the daily driver I have my learnedlesson. But, after the Disco engine swap I have a 6.0 litre chevy motor complete with harness begining to break a land rover tranny or transfer case. No problems climbing sand dunes due to not enough power to carry a bunch of tire speed.

So you are going to put your engine into the donor and then put a GM big block into your truck?
Will the springs hadle the extra weight? I assume that you already have the HD springs but are they HD enough?

The plan was and is to install the new motor (lowering the XDs' transmission and transfer case) as low in the frame rails as possible. At the same time raising the overall truck height by 6" with airbags. My goal is to run 40 inch tires and improve the drive ability. Currently just to parallel park is a three point turn because of having to decrease the turning radius to run 37s'. I am going to build custom radius arms and a cantilever front with a four link with cantilevered in the rear and custom sway bars front and rear. I will be putting my 34 years of machining and welding to the test. If I can complete the truck in two years I'll be stoked (time line based on my rock crawler jeep). The mechanics of the thing don't concern me near as much as the electronics and being able to pass smog here in Califorinia after it's done.
