Hi I have been given a 1998 Disco SE7 4.0L Series I with 78k miles on it by man father, it has a sized motor and I have the opportunity to pick one up locally for around 500.00. I have a mechanic that is charging me 700.00 of instillation.

MY REAL QUESTIONS ARE>> What types of gaskets / seals / parts and servicing in general should I service when conveniently having the engine out and ensuring a PROPERLY serviced vehicle and what should I look for and ask about the egine I am picking up from this stranger ?????

 

Check and replace any questionable hoses, tranny front seal, engine rear seal, water pump, any leaking seals, t/stat, plugs and wires.
As for the service, use mine from the top of the Discovery section and do it all.
