Default 99 Disco II with a few problems

I just bought a 1999 Discovery Series II and drove it from Miami to New Orleans. Mechanically, everything is sound. It did not, however, come with the owners manual. Couple questions.

1. How do you turn the cruise control on? 1000 miles and no cruise control wasn't fun. I don't know if it doesn't work or if I just couldn't figure it out.

2. When I hit the turn signal, there is the direction arrow and a trailer flashing. I assume this is for the towing, but can I turn this off? I know that most vehicles use a lot more fuel in this mode. I wasn't towing anything and didn't need this.

umm i don't think it's a towing mode ... it's just a light that tells you give room for your trailer, mine has done it snice i have had it, as for the mpg it's a land rover it sucks any ways ... as for the cruise control, there should be a little butten under the clock, the butten has to lines that point with the truck and one that is acrose it, push it then there should be a butten on the stearing wheel the plus on sets it (it's how it works on the 96's) i'll look for a pic on the 99's and get back to ya ... the pic is from my truck i'll find one from your year when i find it

You need to turn on the master power for the cruise, then you can use the steering wheel buttons to set/resume the cruise.
You can leave the master power switch on all the time.

That little trailer when you use the turn signals is to let you know if the trailer lights are working properly or not.
It will flash once with no trailer lights plugged in.
It will flash with the turn signals as long as a trailer with lights is plugged in to the trucks wiring and working properly.
You cannot turn this off.

You MUST use premium gas.

Here is some info for you.

Thanks for the responses. I pressed the cruise control button under the clock and the cruise control still doesn't work. It must be in the wiring then. I'll check that out. Thanks again everyone.

as for the cruise issues, check the vacuum lines located just below the radiator fluid resevior on the passenger side of the engine compartment, attached to the inside of the wheel well. phil
