Default 99 Disco SD questions?

I have used the search feature and have found most of the answeres over the past few weeks but still have a few questions. I am new to Land Rovers and I bought a 99 SD a few weeks ago. First...Is the 99 SD the same as a 98 Disco 1, just leftover till they ran out of parts then started making a Disco II? Second, I have a diff lock shifter, but from my reading the 99-2001 could not engage the CDL without retro fitting a older shifter? I can get my shifter to move from high to low but not to the left for diff lock...I wish I had a owners manual but did not get one with the truck. Thanks in advance for any help you contribute.

That is a little common, it is caused by lack of shifting and the linkage binds up.
PM me your tele number and I will call and walk you thru what needs to be done.

Check under the drivers seat for the owners manual.
The "SD" is the base model.

All DI's are the same and all DII's are the same.
Of course there are a few differences between the model years, but for all intensive purposes they are the same.

This is ironic that this question was asked tonight. I just purchased a 1999 SD also, and I've been unable to determine if it is a Series I or a Series II. With some sites saying there were only Series II in 1999, I've found myself very confused.
For reference, my VIN is SALJY1241XA560349.
Am I correct in assuming that my 'lower placed' taillight assemblies and not having the digital read out for the climate controls point to it being a Series I? I also don't have a switch for Downhill Descent Control.
Thanks, and appreciate the wealth of knowledge on this forum for a newbie Land Rover owner!

Nevermind - finally found the vin chart that shows my JY means I have a series I, not a series II.
Now if I can just get the misfire on cylinder number 7 to go away! Replaced the spark plugs tonight. #7 was fouled, and gapped too wide. Roads are too icy here in Portland though to put a load on the engine and see if the misfire is gone. Hopefully tomorrow!

SALTY is the beginning of D2'2 vin number.
As for your mis fire, you will be needing a new set of plug wires, 8 mm Magnacor are the best way to go. When you have that resolved, here is a list of everything that you should do prior to going off road.
Mike
This is the parts list for a 60,000 mile service or a high mileage used truck, the way I do it.
1 Oil filter, K&N 3001 or Mobil 1- 301
1 Air filter
6 Qts of engine oil
12 Qts of ATF
7 Qts of 80/90W synthetic gear oil, 85W/140 for HD use
3 Pints of synthetic Brake fluid
2 Qts of synthetic Power steering fluid
2 Gallons of OAT, orange coolant, also called Dexcool
1 Bottle of Lucas Power Steering additive
1 Bottle of Lucas Transmission additive
1 Can of Spray Carb. Spray
1 Can Of Brake cleaner
8 Spark Plugs, I use Bosch Platium Plus 4's
1 Set of Magnacor 8mm plug wires
1 Serpentine belt
2 Bottles of SeaFoam gas additive
1 T/Stat
1 bottle of WaterWetter or Purple Ice
Hoses and belts, as necessary

60,000 Mile Service or Major Service for High Mileage Used Vehicle just purchased

Bleed the brakes
Flush and change the power steering fluid adding one bottle of additive
Service the tranny adding one bottle of additive
Change the coolant and t/stat
Do an engine flush before changing the oil
Do an induction cleaning
Clean the throttle body
Add fuel additive to full gas tank
Change both of the diffs fluid
Change the t/case oil
Replace the plugs and wires
Replace the air filter
Lube all the drive shaft grease fitting including the 2 slip shafts
Do full inspection of brakes, hoses, bushings etc.

Mike - Awesome list for a newbie, much appreciated.
I've gone through several of the items, and still seem to have a misfire or hesitation going on.
I'll try and get over to an autozone to reset the codes and see what I've resolved this weekend, but here's what I've done so far.

Engine Flush
Oil Change with Castrol Synthetic
Two tanks with Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner
Sea Foam through Vac twice
New Plugs and gapped
New Wires (Not the Magnacor, as I wanted to get them in today. Napa Premium brand something or other)
New Air Filter
Cleaned Throttle Body with Carb Cleaner

It seems that the misfire only comes after the motor is up to operating temperature. Any chance it could be the ignition coil then? I've got one on order to test it out, but it won't be in town until mid next week.
Thanks!

oh, and here are the codes I had when scanned prior to any of this work being done:
1447
1187
0451
0307
1316
