Default 99 Discovery Steering Pump Replacement

I have a 99 Discovery with a steering pump that is going. It is leaking from the pump and make a horrible noise when I turn the steering wheel. Is this a really big job. Does anyone have a step by step on how to do this?
Thanks,
Louie

Either way, no it is not a major deal other then the cost, don't buy any reman's from local auto parts stores, they tend to fail alot.
Check out Atlantic British and Rover Connection for both new and their good reman's.
Make sure to use the right fluid when flushing out the system.

On the DI, power steering pump is a easy replacement part. Haven't some folks used a GM power steering pump as a cheaper replacement. When removing the pump from the housing, there are two bolts inside the housing that's not easily seen. After removing all the other bolts, you will wonder "why isn't this pump coming out" It's because of those two bolts. Once the two bolts are removed, it will slip right out like butter.

D1's use ATF, D2's use P/S fluid.

What's the difference between the two systems that causes them to use different types of fluid?

Nobody knows, nobody knows.

I think it was for simplicity, the ACE system on a DII requires power steering fluid so they just made the power steering system on a DII to use the same type of fluid as the ACE system would be my non educated guess.
