Default AB radiator hose PITA

I just replaced the lower hose and t-stat on my DII. I paid extra for a hose from atlantic british to make sure it was a good fit. The factory hose is all rubber the AB hose is made up of 3 different hoses with a hard plastic joint..well guess what..hard plastic doesn't flex. A metal oil line was in the way, after trying for an hour I had to bend the oil line about 1/4" just to get the hose on. Hopefully the oil line will not leak. anybody else run into this problem?

I just went through that 2 weeks ago, except I replace all of the hoses and not just the t-stat and lower hose. I also ran into the same problem, but I disconnected the oil line instead of bending it. It was more work but I was worried about busting it and having to wait another 4 days to receive the part. The lower engine hose from AB is actually an original Land Rover part. They just changed them because the original all rubber ones were more prone to failure just like the original upper radiator hose. When they changed the design on the lower engine hose they apparently never thought or cared about the person that would have to install it. Typical of automobile manufactures.

What was the reasoning behind replacing the lower hoses? Were they rotting? All my hoses look like new. My plan was to just swap the T-stat.

My T-stat had a hair line crack and my upper radiator hose was the old style with the bleeder screw in the middle of the hose instead of at the plastic tee fitting. The top hose cost $60 and the kit with all of the hoses cost $200. I figured after 10 years it wasn't worth getting cheap and it was better to just replace all of them and be over with it. I hopefully won't have to replace them in another 10 years when the truck turns 20 years old.

Did you use a space saver clamp or a regular screw type clamp for the hose that goes into the water pump.

Ahhh, makes sense. Wish me luck, that hose has been mated up to my T-stat for ~8 yrs and 120K.

If your hoses are really that old, I'd suggest thinking about replacing them. It would suck to lose a HG (or worse yet, a liner) over a bad hose.

FYI...If your not 100% certain of their age, clean them off and take a close look...the manufacture date is stamped on them somewhere. After my truck over heated (due to a bad water pump and HG), I did all my hoses last summer. I later found that the old hoses were stamped with a 2008 Mfr date. They probably didn't need replaced, but the truck was new to me, had no service history, and had problems, so I decided it was better to be safe than sorry. I've put them away to save as spares...
