Default ABS 4086 question

I did a search and didn't find any definitive answers, so i'll pose this to the group.

The 3 amigos popped on w/ the brake light. Plugged up the Hawkeye and pulled: 4086: Front Left Sensor Intermittent sensor out put during driving, broken wire. Cleared the DTC and drove for a day, then it popped back on, same code. ABS line is plugged in no visbile breaks

My question - do I have to replace the entire front left hub assembly or can I just replace the ABS sensor? (I noted that roverparts sells both, 400 bucks vs 160

Thanks

well you could just do the sensor, but then you are faced with "what if its the hub or wire?".
I have spare used units for such things. I can swap it out and see on the cheap.
do you have the plug set up or the full length wire from sensor? scenario... I stretched a rear wire and got the same type code for rear. I could not see a visible damaged area. swapped hub and in with a new sensor......same code. I then decided it was wire related. so I cut the sensor wires further back (up to a convenient spot at frame) and spliced in new wires. I have since spliced in extended wires at all 4 corners. I just use direct burial low voltage wire from hd or lowes, I butt splice, then shrink wrap. cheap and easy, if you want to try that first.

Dusty - thanks for the insight, i'll see if Paul has any extra hubs I can test it with (hoping it's just the wires, they were stretched by the prior owner).

Is that the same low voltage wires used for yard lighting? I thnk I have some left over from last summer

Also I noted a slight pulsing sound coming from the ABS module in the engine bay right after I turned the vehicle off

that works, but might have to get some cut at the spools, in electrical (so you aren't buying 250'). I just got the as close to same gauge uv/direct burial as possible (I think stranded 16/2....maybe 14) do not even remember its intent, it was a roll on the sprinkler system parts isle over by plumbing. guessing it is used as legs to the valve solenoid in the sprinkler system.

this....
