Default ABS pump?

Hello everybody.

Im a proud owner of a LR discovery 2(2003) HSE, TD5, automatic, with 105000km on the dash. The last months i have had frequent returning problems with the three amigos+ one(Light on dash: ABS, TC, Parkbrake, HDC).
It started with the three amigos comming on(ABS, TC and Parkbrake). I pulled over and restarted my engine whereupon the lights went away. A week later all four came on and they would not dissappear after restarting the car. The ABS, TC and HDC was out. Could not feel or hear the ABS working when locking the weels, TC would not work whe wheels were spinning and i could not engage my HDC. The local mechanics told me it was a faulty ABS sensor after reading the codes. He deletet the codes and I did not have a problem again for another week. Lights came back on and i had my left front ABS sensor replaced by the local mechanics(LR shop said right front after reading and local mechanics said right back- conflict). The lights came back on when braking the same day as i had the sensor replaced. Only three of them this time(Park, ABS and TC), they would dissapear after restarting the engine but come on again at random times when braking. It went on for some days and then all four came back on and i did a new diagnostic test. This time (again) the mechanics told me it was the right rear ABS sensor that was bad. I had it changed and the same day all four lights came on again. This time when diagnosing the problem these errors came up:

Pump failure monitor line
Pump failure 3 (pump sticiking)
Shuttle valve switch failure
Rear right inlet valve drive short to supply

My mechanic told me that this might look like a ABS pump problem and that we might be facing a pump replacement. I told him that i would look around the internet and come back to him.

Is there someone who has experience with this problem(there is lots of articles on the three amigos but non of them are too specific)? Could it be another problem, like SLS or something else that might cause it? I dont want to just buy a ABS pump as these things are very expencive.
I will be very grateful for all replies. Thank you!

Anders.

Hmmm. There is a DIY fix for the shuttle valve fault. All you need are few allen wrenches, wire, heat shrink and a solder gun.

A link to the "How to" is in this thread: https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=26847

I don't know if it will take care of the other faults, however. But it wouldn't hurt to try.

Sounds like your ABS modulator needs rebuilding.
You can buy the kit to do it yourself or you can buy a used ABS modulator.
May sure that you flush your brake fluid every 24 months no matter what.
That is what LR recommends and not doing this will cause the old brake fluid to gum things up.
Your ABS modulator works by opening and closing valves inside it really fast to pulsate the brakes, valve open braking power at that wheel, valve closed no braking power to that wheel.
Valve gets clogged with crud and no worky.
Also there is a small circuit board inside the modulator and the solder joints can break and it will throw a fault code.

Try flushing the brake fluid first, it will be cheap and is a DIY.
If that does not cure the problem then you need a new or rebuilt ABS modulator.

Bleeding won't help a thing, read the above mentioned link that Josh wrote up and go from there.

After i replaced my airsuspensions with new ones the problem has more or less dissappeared. From time to time i get the handbrake TC and ABS light, but as long as i pull over and restart my engine they dissapear. If i go on driving my HDC light will also come on and then i need to delete the codes.
It is very important to make a proper diagnostic workup before changing the ABS pump. You can find an article on it at www.landrovertechinfo.com. It will cost you 5£(1 houre of acsess to whole site) but it might be worth it. cos there could be problems outside of the pump.
The article is found under bulletins and technical bulletins.
Good luck

Happy Discovery driver that will go out and protect the car against corrosion now. Cant remember last time i saw the problemlamps.

does sound like an SVS fault. you can use the bypass that Josh wrote up, linked above. pretty easy fix took me about 3 hours.

without air suspension the system will sometimes convert back and forth and in the process throw ten codes.

A land rover shop will know this and look for the obvious problems like shuttle valve and abs sensors.

A non lR shop won't and guess until it drains you of money.
