Default ABS question

94 Disco I, 3.9 V8. I am having flibberty-gibbets with the ABS. Sometimes the Anti-lock light goes out on forward movement when starting out. Sometimes not. If the Anti-lock light is out, the ABS is supposedly "working" ........but it will trigger itself at the most inappropriate times, often locking up the wheels, takes a moment to free them. This is frustrating in traffic. I am so frustrated, I pulled the main ABS modulator fuse. Now the brakes operate "normally" good pedal feel, etc.

I am not totally sold on this ABS, and in some "other" vehicles one is allowed to turn off this feature. My question is: Without ABS operating, am I not just reverting to standard power brakes, like most older cars/trucks have? It isn't MORE dangerous than a vehicle that never had ABS is it? The brakes stop straight and true, I have plenty of brake pedal.

I am 165 miles away from the nearest LR dealer, and I doubt I could afford their rates for repair of this anyway. I have measured the resistance (at the plugs) of each wheel sensor, and they are all the same...so I am assuming they are all OK. This is a "hobby" vehicle for me, so I have to keep my expenses down, so I can afford gas (ha ha).

Default RE: ABS question

Dude I pulled my ABS fuse last fall, went all winter (most snow we have had in years) and no problems. As long as you and anybody who drives it know that there are no ABS brakes you will be fine until you can fix it.
A car with ABS that has been disabled is no more dangerous than a car that never had them. Brakes is brakes. All the ABS does is pulse the brake pressure faster than what you can do.
