ABS Sensor Not Installed in Hub -- Another Amigo Question
I have a 2001 D2
Replaced the front Left Hub this weekend -- it was toast.
Had the 3 Amigo's for a few weeks -- the code has always been 046 -- Low Output on Front Left ABS Sensor
-- I checked the ABS Sensor at the connector in Engine Bay and it read 1100 Ohms (give or take) so it might be good
-- I will check the connector to the ECU Slab this upcoming weekend for continuity (had to make an extension wire for multimeter)
Question
-- I have a extra ABS Sensor (EBay Purchase) and wondering if I plug it in to the Engine Bay Connector will it fault out by not being installed in the Hub. Hoping that if it does not throw the "3 Amigo's" then I will know the installed sensor is bad and can save me some time on checking/replacing wires from the connector back to the ECU.
Thanks

No it will not fault. Of the two sensors I have replaced I've always plugged them into the engine bay connector first (just laying in the engine bay). Turn it on and verify no immediate three amigos or dash lights before installing to verify it's good. The sensor detects the rotating teeth inside the hub so it's its just hanging there, it's not detecting any rotation, which is normal when the truck is stationary.
Thank you -- hoping that by plugging the sensor into the connector and not installing in the hub I can determine if the installed original ABS sensor is the problem or:
-- Connector in the engine bay
-- Or wire from connector to ECU
So a simple test to eliminate a possible cause of the Amigo's -- Finally something simple.

One other side note. If you do end up replacing the sensor, put a load of gear lube on the tip of it, before you put it back into the hub. After replacing the left front sensor, my amigos would come on at speeds over 10 mph, it seemed without that lube in the void between the end of the sensor and the gear teeth, it was getting a weak or inconsistent reading. Others have also reporting this exact issue after replacing the ABS sensor and the lube fixed it.
I will do that -- I replaced the worn out hub with a used unit I purchased from Paul Grant and I put a little extra grease into the hub before installing. I was hoping that the hub was the cause of the Amigos and after all the issues with replacing the hub did not want to replace the sensor if it was not the cause.
-- I am hoping it is not the sensor, not looking forward to removing the brakes that I just installed (I put on new brakes when I replaced the hub)
-- Hoping it is the connector, then I can hardwire to bypass the connector plug and solve my problem.
-- If I have to replace the wires from the connector to the ECU it appears to be a semi easy job, definetly easier than replacing the sensor
Thanks for the help.

So tried to get the ABS light to come on with engine running but not moving -- No Dice.
It did throw the ABS -- followed by TC and HDC quickly thereafter -- as soon as the I moved the vehicle a little down the driveway/road (less than 1/4 miles)
Error Code: 046:Front Left sensor output low
So my assumption is a loose connection/broken wire/etc -- so not a big deal just need someone's (that is why I have kids) help checking continuity -- worse case is I replace the sensor and wire all the way back to the ECU which I assume would fix the problem.
English and electricity -- nothing can ever be easy.
