Advice requested : (therapy session) 2004 Disco 2
I would add a brake switch to that list of parts for your desert trip, and some self-fusing Rescue Tape. I had a guy parting out his D2, so I got all the hoses and old t-stat and carry them in a small duffle bag with extra hose clamps. Hey, he was pretty much giving them away. I also made my own spare bulb kit like the one you can buy from LR, (It may not be necessary, but a spare headlight bulb might be important in the desert.) Also, a copy of RAVE on a device that you carry with you would be nice. Duct tape, RTV, spare fuses, and I like to have one of the multipurpose relays that is used in the under hood fuse box as well.

Thanks for all of the replies guys, i appreciate it.
If i sound frustrated its because one of my original plans was to drive around 8000 miles this upcoming July. I've lost a bit of confidence in the Disco and i think that most of my frustration lies in the fact that the engine that was dropped in prior to me buying the car had 70K miles on it and an uncertain service history. Having already broken down once with my toddler and wife in the car, (mental note, tow trucks won't carry toddlers unless they have a quad cab truck available.) i'm trying to insulate my family from my "interesting" vehicle choice
Seems that my plan to change the radiator, hoses and tstat meets with approval. I'll have the rest of the service finished in the next 10-14 days. Thanks for the tip on a mechanic to do the brake job. First time round, i'm going to use Jahn at rovin rovers for any work I won't tackle myself.

To close this thread out, I finished the work on the radiator swap/ cooling system replacement and took care of the 120K service at the same time. the current motor shows good compression on all cylinders so i'm not going to worry about head gaskets until it happens.
