Advice on SAI P1414 P1417
Hi All,
2003 Disco II SE, 170k
Apreciate these SAI codes have a lot of info on them already but i just wanted to see if there were any thoughts on my plans.
The SAI was always a bit loud so i read the threads on here and decided to inspect the filter, it was all intact but everything was covered in significant carbon and soot like deposits. I did my best to clean the thing up and put it all back together. I checked all the pipes and secured junctions which appeared to be a little loose. Then a few months later the SAI started to make an awful drowning noise as though the air could not get through. it was quite loud at times and then one day it just stopped, but then i noticed the SAI had stopped coming on as well. I have checked my codes and have got P1412 & P1415 and this morning i checked after clearing them yesterday and had pending codes P1414 & P1417. The weather has really dropped here in Toronto so the SAI really should be coming on.
I have reviewed the RAVE and the threads on here and my first port of call is to replace the SAI solnoid which is likely to be circa $50 as i live in Canada currently. My hope is then that the SAI has simply shorted out although if it has burnt out or seized i suspect it will then need replacing as well?
Also, I spoke to an LR mechanic who said that he would be inclined to think that the valves may need repalcing as these often get burnt out due to where they are located.........any views on this?
Any thoughts on where i am going with this would much appreciated as already chucked some big $'s at the truck last year!
Cheers
J

Those codes are for low SAI air flow during periodic tests. So in addition is the pump running at all? Perhaps pump has died from trying to push a clogged up system. The pump has a relay in the fuse box under the hood, you could remove the relay and jumper the pins directly (just the ones that match up with terminals marked 30 and 87 on the relay).

Thanks Guys.
I confirm that the SAI has altogether stopped working and is now permantly showing codes 1414 and 1417. Is it still worth trying to "jump the relay" as a test? And if so is this easy to do? I take it i take the relay out then manually link the pins, any thing i should watch out for as not done this before?
Can you confirm part no. for cannister, could not find it on canadian car supply website. Is this something i get ordered in from the US i presume?
Is the solinois a simple plug and play item if decide to change it?
Cheers for you help.

jumping the relay puts 12 volts to the SAI pump. If no run, need pump. Or you can unplug pump and test by putting 12 volts at the pump connector. It is an expensive part. Pump Secondary Air (Genuine Part # WIB000060) - Land Rover miscellaneous from Atlantic British Maybe a pre-owned one?
