Hey all, I Installed a new radiator, water pump and oem (gray) 180 thermostat. The engine was dead cold when I bled her. ( Bled just fine had coolant come out at the "T".) I did not raise the tank, as I've bled her before with no issues. So I the started truck and I was underneath finishing up filling the transmission as well. Truck was at idle for like maybe 5 minutes or so when i noticed my ultra gauge climbing at 208 to 212 when I cut her off. I "laser temp" checked cooling hoses. The bottom hose was cold, radiator was fairly cold all other hoses plus coolant tank were hot. Even though I had a "successful Bleed" ( or did I ? ) Could there have been a big air pocket(s) still trapped inside? Tomorrow I am going to jack up the front end of the truck and bleed again and see if that does the trick. The reason I replaced all that stuff in the first place was my thermostat was bad and I had a new radiator and water pump on my shelf. Any thoughts or suggestions?

 

You could have an air pocket but just remove the coolant tank from the housing and lift it up and bleed it that way. The other option is, did you route the belt properly? If not , it will try to push water out instead of take it in. Just my thoughts

Of course number 7 in the diagram is the water pump/viscous fan. Check your belt routing and then re bleed the system

 

In my personal experience, I can never get all the air out of the system properly unless I run the heater for a minute and give the engine a couple revs to circulate the fluid. I have had hoses just come loose on the trail and that's pretty much been the only way I can ever get the Cooling system to work correctly.

 

Well I feel pretty darn stupuid right now. Checked the belt this morning, all good. Bled the system by the book, all good. I checked the thermostat again, mind you I checked it last night and for some reason I just now realized I had the two top hose's in the wrong place. So I'm going to let her cool down, Fix the hose issue, re bleed and hopefully I will have slayed the gremlins.

Well I'll tell you what my wife says, if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all!!
