Trouble with Disco I
Hi,
... need HELP!! [X(]I have trouble with my Disco I as it won't stay running. We checked the alternator and it seems to be fine. When I first start it, it revs up to 1500 rpm and then it goes down until the engine stalls. I can't keep it running. We were thinking maybe a plugged catalytic converter or something like that?!? (hope not!!)
Any other ideas??!!!??
Thanks very much in advance!!

Hello again !
At first sight, this looks like a fuel starvation problem to me. I would start by checking / replacing the fuel filter. If it does not improve things, we'll look further...

Hi,
Thanks for the responses!!!!!
I ended up taking it to LR dealership and they said that it would be an IAC (?) sensor/module. Anyhow, approx. $460. We have cleaned the plates as they were all gummed up and at least the vehicle isn't stalling anymore, but the idle is now high at 1500rpm without touching the gas pedal and only goes down slowly once the vehicle has stopped. ?????!!!?? So, I was told that this would probably be fixed by changing that sensor.
Regarding the motor ... 4Ltr. - V8 engine.

Hello
I'm not sure what the IAC is but I would strongly recommend that you 1st try cleaning the stepper motor, this is located at the back of the plenum, it has a plug with 3 wires (maybe 4) which has a a clip on it which you remove then using a big adjustable carefully!! unscrew this and clean it and the chamber it comes out of then screw it back in, a gentle tighten back in maybe some PTFE tape. This is the main problem with TVR's which use the Rover V8 it seems to get heavily sooted. The part itself is around 30GBP so worth replacing rather than 400usd. Worth looking round www.pistonheads.co.uk on the Chimera forum since these use the Rover V8
Good Luck
Jon
