Default Am I missing something with my front shaft?

So my 2001 D2 came with a receipt for $600 for a new front shaft dated 2011 and mileage 111,000. Currently 2 years later I have 122,000 miles so 10K miles on this front shaft. I got under the car to find a grease fitting to lube it since I assumed it must have been greasable, but there are no fittings in either the valley of the U-Joint or the at the ends. There are just those circ-clips. The front shaft is noticeably newer than anything else under the truck, so I do think it was changed 2 years ago.

So did the previous owner buy another stock front shaft that will fail at some point? I would have thought that for $600 they would have put a better front shaft. If it is the stock one, can I simply ignore this issue for another 10 or 20K miles since the shaft is pretty new and then buy an upgraded one later? I think I read somewhere that they lasted 60-80K miles

Or am I being dumb and is there somewhere else I should be adding grease?See pics below.

thanks

It's better to remove it to grease the fittings, and you need to rotate the shaft to see if there are fittings.

Same aftermarket ones don't have the actual nipple for the grease, rather a small screw type thing that you back out and use a nipple or zerk or whatever to put in. Check around for that.

Another OEM style would not have the fittings, and he could have been charged that by Bubba who got one from the junk yard and spray painted it. We have had pix posted of the "needle" fittings that take a different grease adapter for some of the after market shafts. Sounds a little light ($$) for dealer parts.

see https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...ghlight=needle for pixs

Thanks for help. I'll add this to the list of things to fix.

follow-up question. If I remove the prop shaft to fix, can the car be driven around in 2WD mode in the meanwhile?

If you have locking CDL, or the spud for it that came on certain years but had no linkage. Here's a pix of where that pokes up, and a 10mm (?) wrench can turn it to lock, don't have to remove console. Don't do a lot of donuts on pavement while in this mode. Adding CDL adds to off road capability.
