Default Another possible source of tapping....

I recently had the cylinder heads reworked as part of my long drawnout build of my 2003 D2. As part of the process, I had removed the oil dipstick tube.
Getting the tube seated all the way back down into the block proved to be a bit challenging. I had to continue to bend it slightly to get it to go all the way in.
This resulted in the tube touching the counter weight on the crank. You can see the shiny area on the crank where the tube rubbed.
Not to say this is common, but it could be a potential cause. Look closely and rotate the crank while you have the pan off.

Wow, man. That could have been really bad. Really, really bad. Glad you caught it.

Well, I actually ran it for a bit. Were it not for the tight fit of the tube thru the block, and the attachment of the tube itself to the valve cover, the crank counterweight would have hammered the tube upwards.

Doubtful anyone else has this issue. Its just the kinda luck I have..lol!
