Granted, by now your big storm has come and gone. I read the whole thread, and somewhere through it I was reminded of the advice my father gave me 40 years ago: "Drive as though there was a raw egg between your foot and either pedal." Think about that. Accelerate very gently. Anticipate the need to stop so far in advance that you can stop and not break that egg.
Look at my location. Not a single snow related accident, ever. I actually drove to work during the "Blizzard of '78" in a '74 Buick only to find the place closed down.

 

Ignore all of those people. Drive like you stole it and you need to get to your destination 5 minutes earlier then you usually would because theres a bomb and you have to save your kid before it goes off. Im telling you, thats the safest way to drive in snow.
