Default Anyone with a snorkel willing to help?

For our intake tube project I need to know the max pressure/vacuum created by the motor with a snorkel installed.

Anybody have a vacuum gauge and a snorkel installed willing to help? I would need the max pressure, so during some high revs would be the best for testing.

Thank you.

I can get some, but it might be a month or so (need some new couplings before I can reconnect it). My snorkel will also be more free flowing than most since it keeps 3.25" tube the whole way.

Thanks, hopefully I’ll be in production by then. Need to get the worst case scenario numbers, so a more restricted snorkel is best.

The "ram air effect" should be able to be calculated, based on the i.d of the snorkel.
I have always been suprised that the Disco ecu can compensate for that as well.

Hi Abran, you are entering the realms of little known and much guesswork. There is a correlation between exhaust tracts and intake tracts regarding intake breathing at different rpm's which is also related to instant torque vs the torque curve so the engine isn't too bhp 'peaky', IMHO, don't go there as the calcs are extremely complex and there are far too many variables to cope with. It also depends whether there is a filter or no filter and the condition of the filter plays a big part. In all honesty, snorkels cause a restriction on most if not all engines and exacerbate fuel consumption overall. IMHO a 2.5" or 3.0" I/D pipe depending on the length is all you should need, and again, depending on the amount of bends and the final termination cowl of the snorkel. By going down the intake vacuum/dwell route is useful but far from the whole story as that will vary depending on engine efficiency, cam type lift and dwell related to exhaust back pressures etc, etc. By introducing a snorkel in theory it should increase the engine torque but will reduce bhp output, say about 5-10%, as the intake breathing is affected. You need to treat air as a liquid, which it actually is, so apply Simpsons Law related to the flow of liquids in a given situation. IMHO in most cases a 2.5" I/D pipe should be more than adequate to allow sufficient air into the engine but like any intake restriction it will notionally compromise fuel efficiency but by how much is anyone's guess. Sorry I can't be of more help but good luck.

Ram air does almost nothing.

Abran, I have an ECU log of airflow in g/s from my old disco when it had the safari snorkel on it. Data covers a few hours of highway and street driving. Would that help you? The tool output it in an excel doc

edit: disco was a 3, not a 2
