I think I'm going to go with Lock and Stich blind Full Torque inserts.


Kit comes with everything needed - especially the right angle drill fixture.

Overall length of the blind insert is 1.330".

OD of the inserts is 0.595"

Existing threaded blind holes in the block (7/16-14) are coming in at around 1.630".

I'm not concerned with the depth of the insert - plenty of room. What are everyone's thoughts on the OD - 0.595"?

 

Sorry to hear about the head bolt woes. This whole process is probably in my future if my motor ever decides to give it up. Reading about the inserts, it appears some can transfer the torque load laterally which I think might be bad in a rover block. Stress around the head bolts stock is suspect in cylinder wall cracks according to the JE blog post below.

Found a better alternative to ARP head studs. Considerably more thread engagement.

 

Installing thread inserts in the 4 center holes (2 on each side) and going with the new, longer threads into block, studs.

Right angle drill fixture to ensure straight holes.

 

who makes these longer studs?

 

Be careful with the longer studs - they were made for a different version of the block you can do more damage. There was an issue with thread stripping on blocks that been skimmed where the studs ended up being too long as result of the skimming.

 

Can you be more specific on the “do more damage”?

 

@Tony Luna Cracked blocks and stripped threads, it is old info back 6 or 7 years. I researched when I did my heads about 4 years ago. To be fair the recommended torques in that info were way stupid high too, sorry but I can not locate the info I found. If they are actually made for the Rover V8 you should be fine, as I recall a the issue was people sourcing Buick parts, which are not the same
