Default ATF change. WTF?

Ok, so this is the first time Ive change the tranny fluid since I had the new(used) one put in. I drained it and only about a gallon (4 quarts) came out. This surprised me! Now what surprised me even more then that, was when I went to put the new ATF in. I was working on putting in the second jug (4 quarts) when about 1/4 the way down it started over flowing! WFT? The Disco I takes about 10 quarts does it not? Someone let me know where I dropped the ball please!
Thanks,
-Josh

Obviously you didn't get all the ATF out. The torque converter holds fluid that you won't get out by just draining it.

What AK rover said is correct. If you just do a drain and refill you will only change about half of the fluid. If you are not doing a flush the best way to go is to put 3-4 quarts in and start checking the dipstick to see when you are at full level.

It may not have been full when you started.
You have to go slow when adding trans fluid.

Hey Josh,
Just so you know, one more "WTF" statement/question from you and I will delete you from this site.
If you are not mature to ask a question without swearing, then Dweb may be just the place for you.
