Default Audio System Fuse Problem - Need Help

So I was just finishing up installing my AirLift suspension kit, tapping into a power supply for the onboard compressor by tee-ing into one of the audio system 15amp fuses in the fuse box under the steering wheel, when I accidently (stupidly) shorted the circuit. So I pulled out the fuse (it was either F16 or F17) expecting it to be blown but it was fine. So I thought I was lucky...NOT!

Now my audio system has no sound. Thecontrol head turns on and the display shows the current radio station data with current song info ect. But no sound. Switching modes to CD or tape has the same symptom.

I'm wondering if there is an additional in-line fuse behind the control head? Anyone ever had the control head out orhave this problem before?

Or what about the amp, does it have an in-line fuse?

There is also a fuse for the amps, at least on my 99 D2.

Mystery solved!! (sort of) [&:]

I was driving down a sunnymountain road into a fog enshroudedcoastal town where I work, pressed the front and rear fog light switches like I usually do, and then noticed that the little green L.E.D. on the front fog light switch didn't illuminate, but the little red one on the rear fog light switch was working fine. Guessing correctly that my front fogs were now not working,I immediately suspected that this problem might be connected to my audio system problem.

I knew the front fog lights were not listed on the same fuse circuit as the stereo, so I checked the owners manual and was surprised to find that it was not even listed in the same fuse box. The front fog lights fuse is located in the engine bay fuse box, and sure enough the strange looking 30amp fuse was blown. No spares are included in the engine bay fuse box like they are in the one under the steering wheel, so I just borrowed a good 30amp from another slot listed as the SLS, which is odd because I don't have SLS. Anyway, not to make a long story longer; My front fog lights are now working and so is my audio system. Even though there is no reference to the audio system and front fog lights sharing the same fuse, niether in the owners manual or on the little pictogram stickers in the fuseboxes, but obviously they do share the same fuse.

What's even more puzzeling is; when I accidently shorted out the stereo circuit, why did the 30amp fog lights fuse in the engine bay blow rather than the 15amp stereo fuse under the dash? Surelythe 15amp should have blown first?

Anyway, I stopped by the dealers to pick up a new 30amp to replace the one i borrowed from the SLS...the SLS that I don't have, that is...[>:]

$13.00...never paid that much for an auto fuse before. But then I've never seen an auto fuse that looks like that before, so i didn't even bother to try Auto Zone, thinking it's probably "dealer only item"

Strange cars these Land Rovers...but I'm lovin it! [8D]

do yourself a favor and rewire all the power for your audio system on its own fuses, grounds, and audio lines if you are interested in making your system sound as good as it can on OEM hardware... you are going to want to use low gauge lines for all of the positive and negative (ground) wires, and make the grounds a SHORT as possible.

this will allow you to replace anything in the audio system worry-free due to the fact that you have already separated the audio system from the factory Lucas wiring, this includes making fresh power wiring for the factory amps and head unit. the best plan is to keep the factory acc (accessory wiring [usually blue], the wire that supplies power when the car is engaged by the key, but not running) line for use with all the audio systems. another option is to replace the factory acc with a new line from the battery directly to the amps and head unit with a switch...

if you plan on changing out anything else on the audio system, bypass the existing OEM amps and either use your own amps for everything (especially if you plan on adding subwoofers) or find a head unit (in-dash radio/cd/dvd/etc...) that has a high wattage output for all the speakers in you car

Hey thanks dow, but I'm not that much of an audio-phile to want to completely rewire my audio system. The stock system is good enough for me. I just wanted to get it working again, since the stock sound is better than no sound at all, and that's what I had: No sound, because my front fog lights fuse was blown...makes perfect sense doesn't it? [&:]

BTW: Didn't they stop using Lucas electrics before 2003?
