Default New Polk Audio component system, Install help?

My girl of 5 years just gave a 6 1/2" component system - DB6501 by Polk Audio, marine rated.

Set includes cross over, tweeter and woofer.

I've never installed new speakers before and I'm wondering:

1. Are there factory crossovers in my current system? I'm assuming the Polk xovers would be better? Where are the old ones located?

2. Will i need to pull the head unit to link this stuff up? Etc...

3. Can I place the tweeters in the old tweeter location, so it looks stock? What fit issues will there be with the new tweeters?

4. Any general advice on the install?

Thanks!

I had mb quart components installed on my truck a while back. I purchased them sized the same as the facotory speakers so they could go back and look stock, so i cant help with the sizing issue other than i know the mids were 6.5 and the tweeters were about the same as the stock. The crossovers you will need to install for optimum performance from your new sounders. They spliced into the facorty wiring under the drivers seat, that is where my new crossovers are, and maintained the factory wiring to the door so that if i felt like selling the truck, and not giving away 1200 dollar components, my stock speakers would bolt rite up. I could look at it closer as to wire colors and all later if it would help you.

That's a good start. I'd like to keep the facory wiring just to keep from rewiring it, unless it sucks and should be replaced. Anyone?

Figured I'd need to keep the crossovers, but wondering where the stock ones are?

Rave shows the factory amp under the drivers seat which explains why they put the crossovers there. I did the whole system with a 5 channel amp, so the factory amp was not needed and removed. I would imagine you could still tap in there and mount the crossovers anywhere you want.
