Default Autozone couldn't scan my truck

I am sorry, I am sure that this has been covered, but I had trouble finding it using the search function.
I took my 96 disco to autozone to get the codes read for my CEL, but they got an error saying it could not communicate or something.
Any ideas?
TIA,

I had the same problem when I first bought my truck, it turned out my diagnostic plug was not getting power from the ECM, I looked at the plug schematics and just ran a new power wire to the plug and all was well, I later determined why I did not have power but I cant remember what it was (not a fuse)I think maybe it had something to do with the alarm for some reason, but not sure

your issue could be completely different though, I would agree first and easiest place to start would be to rule out a faulty scan tool. then maybe check the plugs power and ground.

Have them scan it with your truck running. Mine can only get read when the truck is running.

Well, another store and still no luck. Had the car running to no avail. I think I can safely assume the trouble is in the port side of my truck and not the scanners fault.
Any advice on how to remove that kickboard to gain access?
Also, what might I look for once I am in there as far as potential problems. I will of course look for bent pins, but any other ideas of what to look for? Is there a wiring diagram I can find to trace wires?
Thanks,

Well, I cleaned all the the pins in the plug and verified they are not bent. I do not know where a wiring diagram is, but I busted out the old multimeter and found 12V coming from one wire on the plug. Still no read.
Best Guesses?
Thanks,

search on here for 'RAVE manual download' and download it, it might have the pin out diagram for the plug

Thanks Nite Train, Have the Rave manual, but no luck finding the diagrams. Talked to a mechanic who said he thinks I should see voltage from two pins.
I am getting very tempted to get the ECU replaced. Any thoughts?

I think I'd try to find a good local independent LR mechanic and take it to him before buying a ECU.
