Default Need Tech help couldn't post on that thread?

I have a 1996 Discovery SE7 w/ 106,000 miles. Latest problem has been the engine ECU. I replaced the corroded ECU (car wouldn't start) with a used one from a 1997 Disco and now runs like crap. Idles up to 2500 rpms in park/neutral and when in drive it's about die. Today driving at 45 mph heard rattling sound and was about to stall out (misfiring). My 1996 had NO idle problems before replacing the bad engine ECU. Question: can you replace with ECUs from different years and possbily different countries (my used supplier gets most of his vehicles from the UK and I'm in the US)? Or if its not the replacement ECU causing this, could the relay be bad now?
HELP...I've been on my Triumph Bonneville for over 2 weeks b/c of this Discovery.

Stacey.
You will have problems using UK ECU's or different year ECU's. May want to talk to a good tech and see if they can be reprogrammed.
