Back door hard to open..
My back door is getting harder and harder to open. I have tried WD-40 but that doesn't seem to help much. Is there another way to clean the hinges so that it swings open better?? And if there are any hidden spots that I might be missing let me know. I noticed when buying my disco about 7 months ago that some open really easily and others where harder so i guess it just happens over time! Thanks for any input!
I think that part works ok, I can get it to unlatch and open by about 6 inches, then thats when it get harder to open. Is that what your door did or was it just the latch?
The latch gets corroded, you need to remove it and clean it using something that will free it up then add lubricant (not WD40 that's only a good cleaner). I also added a 2nd spring on the inside to return it to the correct position and put waterproof grease around the sleeve so it won't sieze up as quickly next time. The spring made a major difference and cost about $2
Ajh, you mean a second spring to help the actuator, or the handle ??? Cause I've been having the hardest time gertting the rear door to unlock. Most times I need to press the key open door button at least 4 times before it unlocks, and when it does it's in very slow motion. I removed the logo at the back and greased things up, andalthough the handle operates easier, the lockisthe same.
My rear door on my 00 Disco II was as hard as hell, and I did a quick fix that worked like a gem!
I drilled 3 1/8th inch holes through the out skin ofeach hinge up to the barrel. then sprayed wd40 into it and opening and closing the door, the holes let the oil get to the rusted parts and break itup, you keep doing that and the rust begins to ooze out. do both latches and you are set. i think you can get away with 2 holes as well. they should be evenly spaced. after the door loosens back to normal you can find something to cover the holes until you need to lube it routinely. removing the door and replacing it is a pain in the ***.
