Bad Vibration
Hoping someone can help me out here. I have a 2002 Disco II and the truck is vibrating and shaking like crazy over 20 MPH. I checked the drive shafts for play and there isn't any play at all. It does however slam pretty hard when I put it in reverse. Occasionally here some grinding when driving but it isn't consistent at all, comes and goes. Could this be a bad hub, tranny, diff? Any help would be appreciated.

I got a nasty vibration over 40mph. We checked all the obvious things mentioned here and elsewhere including wheel balance, steering parts, alignment and more.
Turns out one of the wheels was out of round. The way we discovered it was to put the car on a lift and start the engine and run at 40 mph with the wheels spinning - it became visually apparent. I'd like to think there is safer way to test this -- and one that doesn't require a lift.
