Belt squeeling
I cleaned my motor for the first time last weekend and now the belt is squeeling. I have tried spraying the belt with WD-40 many times and it stops squeeling for a bit but then it comes back and is very annoying. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
You should not spray anything on the belt. I have had squelling belts before. The only way to fix it is to buy a new belt. I have tried belt dressing before and it did nothing to silence the belt.

That's what I was thinking...just wondered why it started after I sprayed off the motor. I'm changing the head gaskets this weekend and will throw a new belt on then. I'm thinking of replacing the water pump while I'm in there also but the cheapest one I have found is 109.00 at British Atlantic.
Might want to consider a new fanclutch/ fan assembly from there as well. If the clutch locks, it will send your fan through the hood and radiator. At 100K, you should seriously consider...
Thanks for the info...Where is the best place to find one? Anywhere cheaper than $250.00? I just finished the 90K mile service and now with the head gaskets its starting to add up pretty quick. Other than the fan clutch the only other thing I need to do isreplace the U-joints...no signs of going bad but from what I've heard on hereyou don't want to wait until its too late.
Before you start throwing parts at your truck, deal with the more common problems. First, since you have glazed up your belt, spraying it with WD 40, I wouls suggest replacing the belt, also depending on your mileage, I would look at replacing both the belt tensioner and idler pulleys, both of which are major loose belt squeal issues. leave the fan clutch alone until after you replace your belt.
