Best coolant refill method after head gasket replacement
Just finished final torque on the heads. I can’t remember what method I used to refill the coolant the last time I did this job. Just elevate the over flow unscrew the bleeder and pour while running?
Lift the tank
remove the bleeder
engine off
pour coolant in when it comes out the bleeder stop close the bleeder
continue until the tanks stays level
cap off start up watch the tank level top up as required
You will need to re bleed once you have been to temp

Richard has it right. Just follow the procedure in the RAVE, which is what Richard described.
The standard procedure has always worked just fine for me. No need for any of the snake oil, "stand on one foot, elevate the front of the truck while whistling the Battle Hymn of the Republic and wearing a tin foil hat" methods.
Just a couple of other notes - First, always complete the bleed procedure with the engine stone cold. Not a problem for the first fill, of course, but after you fill the system and drive a few miles the coolant level will be down in the reservoir. Be sure to let the truck cool down before you repeat the bleeding procedure.
Also, if you are monitoring the temp with an UltraGauge or something similar you may (will?) see the temp spike in the first few miles. Don't be alarmed; that's normal and the temp will soon come back down.
