I've bought the full kit from Atlantic British and I've piece-mealed it from Rockauto during a closeout. So far I haven't seen to much of a difference. How you install the parts is as important. Cheap stuff can be made to work if you take care when installing, expensive parts can be ruined if you're not paying attention. At this point I don't think there's too much out there that won't work in a 70 year old Buick engine. As for longevity, that's not really the strong suit for these engines anyway so chances are you'll "be back in there" at some point anyway. I honestly haven't noticed too much difference between a top shelf gasket kit and a DIY collection from a parts house. Use the right sealants where required, and don't use them "as extra insurance" when not required, and you should be ok.

I've used $$$ & cheap stuff. Like mentioned above it's all about how the job is done. Take your time and honestly I'd say the prep work and making sure everything is clean is harder than the actual job itself. Get that wrong and it's not going to work or last long.

Thank you, that's helpful to know re: cleaning and going slow.

I have been looking at this kit (cheaper) https://www.roversnorth.com/parts/pl...er_discovery_i

And here's the quote from Atlantic British:

Call Will Tillery (Rover Guy Parts). Will set me up with a Genuine Elring kit for cheap. I had to source an intake gasket and the heater pipe o-ring. He ships fast as well. As others mentioned, take it slow and prep is they key. Organize and bag your stuff w/ labels.

Just generally wise words for any projects one undertakes in life. Took some years to fully understand this.

Buy from Lucky8 on ebay. A whole kit with bolts is 80 bucks. I never had an issue.
