Default The big trailer wire question

i have a walmart trailer wire that has the green white brown and yellow just a standard 4-flat that i want to splice into the land rover one (i have a 2002 discovery 2 se7) i dont want to buy the one from british atlantic cause i dont have that kind of money to spend on a trailer wire. im using this guide http://www.discoweb.org/trailerwire.htm to do the wiring but i dont have a red wire can i just tie the brown into the brake light on the land rover also or would that cause a problem.

The brown wire is for your running lights. So when your headlights are on your lights on the trailer will be on. See attached image.

You need a converter because the turn signals and brake lights are separate See link for an example.

Here is the one I installed on my 2003 DII:
229-56146 - JEGS High Performance

I also added this to keep everything nice and clean:
229-58300 - JEGS High Performance

Been using it most every weekend since installation without any problems. It's got external power and converts the blinker and brake lights into a 4 wire system.

I bought one of the convertors from Amazon for $10, compared to the $30 at Autozone. I ended up not using it when I found that there was a factory installed convertor behind the passenger tail light. You might look and see if you have one.

Can you post a pic of the converter so we can see what it is we should be looking for exactly?
Thanks

I wired in my own converter behind the pass tail light (from Amazon) and I keep the wiring/connector inside the truck. Minnesota winters are tough on electrical connectors exposed to the elements.

Do you currently have the European style trailer connector?

The trailer connection is no longer attached to my truck. It was missing when I got it. Just cut wires hanging underneath. I put a converter on the end of the wires to cover to a 4 wire system and it lasted about 3 months and the end corroded so bad it was unusable. I replaced the end only to find that the converter had failed. I only had left turn signal and nothing else. That is when I decided to keep the wiring inside the truck.
