Default Big troubles with the Tranny

All,

A few days ago we started to hear a grumbling from beneathe the old Disco 2. I figured it was a drive shaft and told my wife I would get to it Monday night after work. That was a Sunday. Did I mention that my 88 XJ-S had a bad alternator and my 98 GMC Sierra had a leaking intake manifold gasket? SO monday at work I get several frantic phone calls from my wife - something made a horrible noise under the LR and it stopped, needed a flatbed to get home. I get home, LOTS of tranny fluid underneath it. I am now confused. The front drive shaft came apart in front of the transfer case, and when it did, it bashed a big chunk out of the side of the transmission. So it would appear that I need to get a new transmission. There is an outside chance I could JB Weld that piece back in but I am not holding my breath.

Sooo the big question is what transmission is compatible with my LR? There are a few trannys on ebay, but 99 Disco 2 is not listed as a compatibility for any ones that I have found.

Thanks all

Another testament to replace front drive shaft with greaseable parts ASP and grease every 5K miles...

Any D2 transmission will fit in another D2...

Yep new tranny for you as well as a new front prop shaft. As noted earlier any DII tranny will work. and make sure you get a rebuilt prop shaft that has GREASE Fittings. I had the same thing happen Still have the IMPACT zone to show for it... look at it this way for a couple of thousand bucks you have just extended the life of your LR

Here's a tranny for cheap. I know the listing says transfer case, but it's actually the tranny plus the transfer case. They don't know **** from shinola...
