Bosch engine clicking
I know this gets discussed a lot but I have an 03 disco the when cold runs nice and quiet but as soon as it comes up to temp it clicks. I pulled the plugs all were dirty and shot. I checked the cyls with a bore scope but found normal filth, no steam cleaning. I assumed it was bad lifters since it sat a lot before I bought it so 11 hours of tear down and reassembling same issues persist. I do not have any dash lights and if you put a stick against the motor to listen to it it still sounds like lifters. Could it be a bad oil pump? Should I put a pressure gauge on it? PO said it has been doing it for about 5 years and has not gotten better or worse. Thank you in advance for help. As I tore the motor down I did not find anything I would not expect to find in a truck with 192K miles on it.

It kind of sounds what my 2002 does with 230k~ miles. When cold, nice and quiet, but when warm the engine kind of sounds like a bad catalytic converter. Interestingly idle oil pressure is about 12PSI which I believe is fairly "okay".
I run 20w50 for summer, and 10w30 in winter. No change. It's been doing it since I've owned the truck since I think 2010.
Best thing to do is put a gauge on and do a certain check, the oil pump is a common issue item. I plan to do mine soon as I found a new set of timing chain and gears in my garage so why not.

i found a thread from 2015 that said the oil passages in the rocker arms clog up and can cause it. I am going to try taking mine apart today and cleaning them to see it that works. I am positive they are dirty. I will let you know if it works.

It is your rockers. I had the same thing. Interestingly enough, a drive cross country solved the issue. Now I do Rotella 15W-40 with 1 quart of Lucas stabilizer + a large filter every 2K. Purrs like a kitten.

I tore the drivers side apart today and 5 or the rockers were clogged solid and the others had some clogging. I just realized today that when the oil was changed they put 5-30 in it and that seems way to thin. I will take the passenger side apart and clean those and put the heavier oil in it with some Lucas and see if it helps. Thank you everyone.
