Default Brake brand question

About 14 months ago, we had the ABS modulator replaced. 6 months ago, I installed new pads (LR brand). 2 months ago, the Three Amigos came calling. Dealer says the modulator is fine, we are getting feedback from the new pads and old rotors.
He says to avoid problems, replace pads and rotors, only using LR parts, otherwise we will still get the Amigos.
Is this true/ I would like to use EBC rotors, and Akebono pads, but don't want the problems.
Should I just stick to dirty old LR pads and rotors?
When this is done, do I need to go back to the dealer to reset the Amigos?

use high quality stuff and try to match brands as best you can. its more important to swap all new pads and rotors at once. also some pads behave different then others. EBC in my experience grip well when warm and are slow to stop when cold and chatter. i never had issues with the stock stuff until it wore down. from what i understand stock rotors and pads are softer in compound which allow for good stopping and grip, but wear out fast due to the trucks weight.

i have a stock rotor/ebc pad set up and in summer heat and after driving a ways they grip and stop great. but in the winter i would be nervous to get them to stop me quickly is i had just left the driveway. i am gonna scuff my rotors and try to rebed the pads and see if that works to help , but i will most likely swap to a ferodo set up.

i am living with my brakes as i am saving for a snorkel

Go ahead and use the pads and rotors you want, no need to use OEM parts if you dont want to.
Excessive dust can set off the 3 Amigo's.

If after a couple of weeks after replacing the parts if the 3 Amigos do not go away then yes you will need the dealer to reset them, unless you buy the ABS Amigo? off of e-bay.
Then you can read and clear the fault codes yourself.

Akebon pads with stock LR rotors which i replaced when i did the pads and am really liking the setup. Much more stopping power versus the old LR rotors and pads.

I just installed Akebono pads today. I felt the difference on the first stop. Smooth, controlled, with a lot more stopping power.

Apparently those are the pads I am rocking as well. I have to say, for such a heavy truck I am fairly impressed with the brakes. As a side note though, brake dust seems very heavy.
