Question Brake discs temperature ?

Hi.
Last year, the right rear caliper seized and the temperature of the disc got smelly hot. Replaced caliper and all OK.
But the front ones have always been running somewhat hot but apparently not overheating, with no burning smell.
(---> https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...el-drag-52552/ )
During a recent looong trip, managed on purpose to come to a halt without applying the brakes after an hour of smooth driving. The right front disc was cold to touch, -fixed itself?- The left front disc still gets hot.
Both rear discs also cold to touch, not even warm.
The mileage improved to ~400 miles/tankfull.
In plans is to replace at least the hot front caliper soon.

Question is, after a long run, if you manage to bring your Disco with healthy front calipers coasting to a stop, how hot to touch the front discs feel ?

300 degrees.
If you are planning on replacing a front caliper, you should do both otherwise you stand a chance of having a brake pull.

I noticed the same with a sticky caliper, coasted to a stop, measured all 4 disk temp with IR thermometer, should be close on each axle, sticky one was hotter.

Yeah, exact degree isn't really what matters, it's comparative from right to left and axle to axle(front to rear should see a difference, both due to vented vs nonvented discs, and braking pressure split)

so much for MPG.
This is an interesting thread.
So, the essence is - brakes are always engaged and causing heat which is wearing the pads down and robbing mpg.

I have an IR thermometer and will see what my rotors are at when i coast to a stop.

Need a long hill.
Mt Shasta comes to mind.
