Brake Fluid Swap
Hi all,
Can anyone explain to me how to swap the normal Brake fluid for Synthetic? I have a 2003 discovery and I am going to be changing the pads and rotors. In addition, I want to change the fluid to full synthetic. Can anyone help?
THanks,
R2racer

First make sure you get the appropriate fluid, DOT 4, i think is what is called for. I used Castrol.
2 of the big Quart Containers will be just enough..
You flush the fluid by basicly bleeding the brakes, start at the farthest caliper from the Master Cylinder and bleed to fluid through clear hose into a clear container like a milk jug untill you see clean fluid coming through, My fluid was 15 years old, so I could see the diffrence very easily.

Drivers Front,
Now bleeding the fluid from the ABS has been mentioned here before, I believe that on a DII you are supposed to turn the igition on and depress the brake pedal and hold it for 30 seconds between the bleeding of each diffrent wheel.. You would of course want to have all the PetCocks closed when doing this so you didnt bleed brake fluid all over the place. And you would want the brakes fully assembled and in working order as well so you didnt pop a piston out of a caliper.
Look into getting a "One Man" brake bleeder aparatus, people here can recommend one, I didnt have one so I had to use my G/F's foot... "PUSH AND HOLD" "LET OFF" "PUSH AND HOLD" "LET OFF" repeat repeat repeat...

Get yourself a Powerbleeder. I have one, works great - especially if you don't have any friends like me!
