Default swap ALL trans fluid

is there a way to swap ALL the old fluid and put new fluid in? thats not a total PITA and able to do in my driveway? i dont want to pay a shop for a flush. if its not a ton more work to swap all the fluid in my driveway, i would prefer to do that, instead of draining 5.5 quarts and putting 5.5 more quarts of new fluid in and mixing with the old. i already have the filter and pan gasket and o-ring.

im guessing whats involved is disconnecting inlet/outlet cooler lines or something, im not sure, which is why im asking if anybody has done it

You could buy a power flusher yourself if you have a couple 1000 dollars lying around. Otherwise, unless you can drop the tyranny in your driveway to empty the torque converter, there is no real way of getting all the fluid

the short answer would be no, not in your driveway.

what some of us have done is drain it and fill it once.
wait a few weeks then drain it, replace the filter and refill it again.

I did it on my Kia, which is front wheel drive, and requires tranny be removed to change filter (their engineers attended university in a British colony). Disconnected line from tranny oil cooler, extended with plastic tubing into gallon container. Crank vehicle, fluid is pumped out. Stop engine at 2 quarts in the jug. Add two quarts new fluid. Repeat until volume out is about right, and color of fluid out is vey close to new fluid color. I researched and saw that some types of trannys require putting in gear (with brake on) to cause fluid to circulate through torque converter. With the Kia, the dealer can only get out a quart or so on draining the sump. And yes, it fixed the shifting problems I was having. As always - dispose of fluid in a safe, legal, and responsible manner.

I plan to do this on my Disco in the near future, will probably snag some tranny line from the salvage yard to make up with plastic hose.

It is a PITB but the poor mans power flush is to remove one of the transmission cooler lines at the radiator, add a length of hose, put in a pale, and have someone start it while you watch. It is a little tricky because it only takes a few seconds to drain it completely, so you can't let it run without oil.

actually its completely ignorant and stupid on a disco two. There is no dipstick so you have go underneath it and pump so fluid only to have it low and cavitate and cause problems down the road. Just pay the money and get it flushed or do it every couple of weeks till it looks clean. even then it wont be completely clean. But for the cost of a flush its worth wasting the money taking the pan off if the bolts don't break or the seal doesn't seal. you only need to replace the filter once. Then stick to a simple flush from a known shop. Hell you dont have to go to a land rover dealer to get the flush done. Just check out BG find ashop and check around. The adaptors aren't too difficult and most shops with a newer machine will have it. Best thing is it takes an hour and you don't have to crawl underneath it and its guaranteed to be problem free. Seriously, how much money does it really cost to do a transmission drop. You have to buy the filter and material, buy a suction gun, buy the tools, spend the two hours taking it down and getting your driveway covered in fluid then spending a ton of time making sure its right and clean. Yet you only get seven quarts of fluid. Seriously on my own vehicle I won't even waste the time.

I just do a drain and fill once a year on both of my cars, its not worth the worry of getting all the old fluid out.
If your fluid was completely worn out, and you had 8qts of worn out fluid and you change out half you now have half worn out fluid.
Change it again and you now have 3/4 worn out fluid, change it once more and you have no worn out fluid.
Change the filter in your drive way and then once a year do a drain and fill and be done with it.
