Default Brake Lights in my 2000 Disco

Okay, this is a new one to me. My brake lights are out in my 2000 Disco. I checked the fuses, which are fine. Does anyone have an idea of what to check next? I had a brake problem about a month ago, where I lost a caliper bolt in the right front. I had a brake shop fix it. Is it possible that that could have screwed it up, or am I looking at the joys of electrical issues?

On a related note, my cruise control is not functioning either.

Have you checked the brake switch at the brake pedal to make sure there is voltage there when the brakes are applied?
Are all 3 brake lights not working?

Yes, all three lights are out. I haven't checked the switch. That's actually something I've NEVER done, in any vehicle I've ever owned. What am I looking for, and how should I check it?

Look up where the brake pedal anchors, there will be 2 small switchs, it is common for the brake switch to fail, they are inexpenseive and easy to replace.
Usually when the switch fails, you have a hard time shifting the tranny also, but in your case, if you use a test probe on the switch I bet you will find it is failing.

Thanks, Mike. I certainly hope it's this. $20 is much easier to stomach than someone haing to troubleshoot my electrical system. . . ;-) Fortunately, the 2000s still had decent wiriing harnesses.
