Default brake system crunch sound at start

Hello all,

Sometimes when I start my Disco, as I press the brake pedal, turn the ignition, and the engine starts, I hear a half second "crunch" sound as the power assisted brake system becomes energized etc. The sound only happens when my foot is pressing the brake pedal at start. No crunching sounds while driving and in operation etc.

Brakes seem to be working fine at the moment.

I don't have enough brake experience to know what this means or what it might indicate etc.

I'm guessing air in the system and that a brake fluid replacement and a brake system bleed might be in order. But I'm only guessing.

As with almost everything else on my Disco, I'll be fixing this myself. Any insight about what the "crunch" sound might indicate and/or foretell, and any advice, and/or recommended next steps will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Thomas

Is it the same sound like when the traction control kicks in?

Yes... the sound is similar if not the same sound as when traction control kicks in. It makes that sound often when I start the engine but not every time.

Don't press the brake when you start
Mine does some weird thing as well, so I don't touch the brake.

Ok.... Good...

I'll find something else that can go bad to worry about then

Thanks for the sanity check...

Cheers,
