Default Breather tube axle fitting

Ok, so in the front axle there is a brass fitting that is pressed in to the axle in to which the breather tube is inserted. It’s a press to connect fitting but the plastic retainer has broken so the tube doesn’t stay in.

Has anyone had any luck prying that out and replacing it? If it can’t be replaced I could tap it and fit a new screw in fitting but I still have to get the old one out.

Maybe give some epoxy a go first. JB Weld to the rescue!

I thought about applying some silicone and at least using that as a temporary fix to secure the breather tube to the fitting.
