BUMPING noise front passenger side '94 D1
Just developed what sounds likeabumping noisefrom the passenger side front tire area. Passenger in the truck said he could feel the bumping best under his right foot. When it first started last night the sound was faint when going straight, and more pronounced on slight curves towards the right, and disappeared on slight curves to the left. By the time the truck got home the sound has become constant and more pronounced.
So far all the posts for this symptom say it is an inevitable problem with DII's and call for replacing the U joints in the CV Housing in the front drive shaft.
[ol][*]Does he same apply to D1's or am I looking at another problem?[*]What is the least expensive repair, or at least the least painful.
I have never done U joints or replaced a CV joint… may attempt to…
But then may not… weekend warrior only[/ol]
Thanks
Joe

Jack up the front of the truck and try and wiggle the front wheels to see how much play if any you have.
Also rotate your tires and see if it is a bad tire.

I would start by rotating the front tires from side to side, as this is pretty quick and easy. If the thumping switches sides, you definitely have a busted belt in that tire. If it stays, then you know that there is a steering/suspension issue.
