Default Burned out Flashers! Incorrectly plugged in Trailer

I incorrectly plugged in trailer wires (Toyota light wiring I think) into my Dico II 2000. Now I have no blinkers or hazard lights, and when I turn the right blinkers on, the green trailer light appears on the dashboard blinking, when I do the left blinkers simply nothing happens. I checked all the fuses, and they all seem fine. I did smell something burnt around the drivers area.

So any advice of what could be the problem, and what I burnt out??
Thank You!
Gary

No, the wires are not still plugged into the trailer. When I started smelling something around the driver area, I disconnected the trailer wire harness from the hitch to the trailer. It is a new trailer for me that I bought used. In disconnecting these wires, I noticed one wire seemed hotter then the rest. I think there is a short of some kind in the trailer right turn signal, but my attention right now is to fix my car first. Thanks for any help you can give.

You probably put power directly to ground, especially if much heat was generated rapidly.

Start looking for brown and or black items that should not be that color.

Check your flasher unit. It could be one option. I burned mine when was working in one turning lamp.

It is located in the fascia fuse box. Is a square black relay. Take it out and smell it. If it is burned, you will notice it immediately.

the unit is this:

Here is the picture of the fusebox. The unit is the black one at the right.

Let me know if this solves your problem, otherwise I could explain you how to check the system.

This seems to be a common problem, I have seen it like three or so times recently. Is there something odd about the LR Trailer wiring? Or have there been that many unlucky Disco owners recently, it has the earmarks of a failure trend....
