Buying Land Rover Disco II, Need help.
HI!
So i'm thinking about buying Land Rover Discovery 2.5 TD5 S from year 2000. It has been driven about 250 000km / 152 534miles. I'm bit worried about the mileage, even though it diesel. Car has been in highway use, never been in forest off-roading to that's a plus.
And because i don't have any experience in Land Rovers, I'm asking the experts I do understand that all cars are individuals, so there's no absolute truth But still, here are some questions i have and i hope someone would be kind enough to answer
1. Is the engine durable, so do i still have miles to go?
2. Does the car rust easily?
3. Is the car usable in deep snow
4. Is there anything in car should especially inspect?
5. Any other common problems that i should know about.
6. Are common repairs at the shop expensive (yes, it depends on the repair shop, but in general)
Thank you

1. The diesel is durable, and good on fuel, compared to the 14 mpg or so that us gas guzzlers enjoy.
2. Lots of the sheet metal parts are aluminum. Underbody (frame) you may need to apply some aftermarket wax sprays or antirust spray. Many Discos do this for you automatically - via the return-all-oil-to-where-nature-originated-it system.
3. Snow is the playground for Discos, with proper tires of course.
4. see link above
5. see link above
6. Dealerships are very high usually. Most repairs within range of average DIY or your favorite indy mechanic. Complete factory tech manual set (shop, electrical, body and interior, etc.) available for free download at link below. It is called the RAVE.
7. Look over the tech section of the Discovery 1 part of the forum, you will find lists of things to do to new-2-me Discos, 60K and higher miles service notes, solutions to common problems, etc.
8. Start out with a new high capacity battery, D2's have lots of electronics that don't do well with marginal batteries.
