bring your new compressor to the ac shop and just have them throw it in, they couldnt charge you much more than an hour or so labor to swap it out, i think there are only 6 bolts.

 

So, basically, what you are saying is if 1 billion other people jump off a bridge, then you should be ok doing it as well.

Im no environmentalist, (we drive 13mpg, 2 ton tanks for christ sake) but that a pretty narrow minded opinion to have.
And I stand corrected about the cyanide gas comment. Its been a long time since I took that class.

 

The compresor comes with oil in it. You shouldn't need any more. Here you go...


Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement

A new compressor is supplied filled with a full charge (X cm3) of refrigerant oil.

( The total quantity of refrigerant oil in the system is 180 ml.)



A calculated quantity of oil must be drained from the new compressor before fitting. To calculate the quantity of oil to be drained:

1. Remove the drain plug from the old compressor.
2. Invert the compressor and gravity drain the oil into a calibrated measuring cylinder. Rotate the compressor clutch to ensure the compressor is completely drained.
3. Note the quantity of oil drained (Y cm3).
4. Calculate the quantity of oil to be drained from the new compressor using the following formula:X cm3 - (Y cm3 + 20 cm3) = Q cm3
5. Remove the drain plug from the new compressor and drain Q cm3 of oil. Fit and tighten the compressor drain plug.

I agree, we all breathe the same air, if we didnt have any enviro laws then we would REALLY be in trouble.
It all adds up, save a penny and you have one cent, save 100 pennies and you have a dollar.
Release the R-134 from one car and its not big deal, but then the next guy does it, and the next, and the next...next thing you know there is a huge hole in the o-zone and skin cancer rates are through the roof and we cant go outside anymore, oh, wait, that already happened.

 

Maybe that's what makes the roof paint fade like mad.... all that freon and deoderant propellant and hair spray from the 60's...
