Just an Update...

It's been almost a year, and still no noises from my fan. This appears to have lasted a while. I may do it again after the winter passes as preventative maintenance.

Default Another update

It's been over 8 months for me, and all is quiet on the fan front. This is way better than dropping $400.

This is a good point. It's easy enough to do that it's probly worth doing annually to reduce bearing wear.

I took mine apart for a squeaking noise and found this. It looks (and smells) like whatever this piece is melted through. Is this repairable or do I need a new one?

It looks like your brush housing is leaning at a good angle. That's the part in Green. And the plate that it connects to is probably melted, or broken. That's in Red.

I don't know if you can get creative and fix that, or maybe you might be looking for a new motor. There was a thread on here that talked about changing out the motor for a more common GM one, or something like that. I'd search for that and see if it's cost effective to go that route.

Personally, I'd see if I could fix that plate, but it looks pretty buggered up.

I looked at it a little more closely and realized the brushes are broken off on that side as well. It looks I will be getting a new motor.

A warning. I followed advice on a GM blower, got the exact model suggested, and when I took mine out the GM one didn't come close. Luckily my problem was just leaves in the cage so I took the GM one back. I think it was about 80 dollars (new).

When I really do have to replace, I'll pull mine and take it to the parts place to compare them. Suggest you do the same.

I found one for $35 at a local salvage yard.
