Default cabin temp regulation

when i set the cabin temp to some value say 70 degrees, it seems to heat too much in when it's cold and cool too much when it's hot. i think it used to do do a better job of keeping the cabin temperature at the correct value. it's like the cabin thermostat is not working correctly.....

any thoughts?

Might not be, there is a small fan inlet by your left knee that pulls in air to sample the temp, it main have failed.

The inside air temp sensor that Mike was talking about could be covered in dirt and lint, I took mine out and cleaned it, worked much better afterwards (quieter too). The little sensor bulb was coated with "stuff" which I think insulated it throwing the accuracy off. I posted some pictures about this a while back. Here's a link to it. https://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/interior-air-temp-sensor-50556/
If cleaning doesn't help, then replacement would be the next step, I think those things are around $70.00 (but I'm going by memory here so I could be way off)

Is there a temp sensor on both sides of the vehicle ? As its a dual zone control I would imagine there would be one on the passenger side is that correct ?

no, just one side, it takes the desired temp of the drivers side and attempts to make the passenger side warmer or colder according to the number set on the passenger side (not a very sophisticated system, it just looks that way) I've found that the numbers are just a relative guide. I adjust my side to where I'm comfortable and then the wife adjusts hers to where she feels comfortable. I think they should have put A, B, C (and so on) rather than numbers, it would be more accurate.
