Default Caliper Bolt Torque Setting?

RAVE says the front caliper bolts are to be torqued to 129 pounds. I was torquing it down to that setting and the head snapped off. I had a real nice afternoon and evening trying to extract the screw before realizing I could get a replacement guide pin at AutoZone for a few bucks. Wasted day aside, is that really how tight I'm supposed to torque the caliper bolt down to?? That seems excessive.

Caliper Guide Pins typically range from 25-35 ft/lbs

Caliper "Carrier" Bracket Bolts typically range from 35 - 125 ft/lbs

I believe you may have referenced the wrong bolt spec in Rave? But kudos to you for trying to identify the proper torque spec.

Calipers are really one of those things you just crank down with a ratchet and say "eh, good enough". You can torque to spec if you want, but not necessary.

Oh gosh. Yup, I see where I went wrong. A couple lines down is "brake caliper guide pin bolt" at 22 lbs. Versus actual caliper bolt at 129 lbs. Phewie. Thanks for the tips guys.

Remember 129ft/lb is literally like standing on your ratchet wrench if you weigh 129lb and it's 1ft long.

So you can kinda idiot check the value by saying "would I stand on my ratchet, given my weight, and the bolt is 8mm."

I think the caliper bolt is 8mm or 3/8".

129lbs/ft is way excessive for either guide pin bolts or caliper carrier bolts.

I rarely use a porque wrench for most things apart from engine internals, head bolts and alloy wheel lug nuts.

I'm with cappedup on this one, think 129lbs weighing down on a 12 inch long wrench. These original bolts also have threadloc on them.
